This Saturday, 18th of February, I finally met Miguel Voigt, a School at Sea’s coach that I was emailing with some time ago. He was living in Holland with his girlfriend Esther and they moved to Lisbon, to Bairro Alto, this was really nice for me, because this way, I can meet him personally and not just mail him.
As they wanted to meet Sintra, they decided to come and spend 3 days here. They were staying in Janas’ Echo Village also known as Quinta do Luzio. We agreed to meet in front the Village’s Palace on Saturday morning. Me, my father, Miguel and Esther. From there, we went up to the Moors’ Castle, by the Sassetti Village and by Penedo da Amizade (Friendship Wall), we had a great walk, always with very beautiful views. During our walk, Miguel and Esther gave me lots of tips about the best way to raise money for School at Sea. I learnt a lot of things with them that I am already doing. At the end of our walk, we went to Piriquita to eat the famous Travesseiro, while we were in Piriquita, we talk about lots of things. I learnt that both Miguel and Esther had already been rowers, which was a great coincidence, because my father works in the Portuguese Rowing Federation. They are both taking Portuguese classes, and are looking for work in Lisbon. It was a really funny and useful walk because I learnt a lot of things about how to raise funds for my project. They are both really funny and kind persons and it was great to spend a morning with them. I wanted to take this post to thank all the people who have helped me, making donations to Mad@Sea. These supports are very important to me. So I wanted to thank you a lot, with all my heart, for the effort you have made to help me. Sandra Cristina Ramos, Anastasiia Volkhvska, Sofia Batalha, Rui Aires, Salomé Martins, Ana Rute Maia, Carlos Pereira, Daniel Silva, José Alberto Teixeira, Nuno Silva, Ramos Family, Maria Francisca Nemésio, Nuno Gusmão, João Garcia, Lourenço Family and Isabel Gonçalves. I really want to join this project! Thank you for supporting me!!

Hi, my name is Madalena and I live in Sintra with my family.
I lived in Terceira Island, in the Azores, for 3 years. Right now I am trying to get funds to join a big adventure called “School at Sea”. I found this project through Julia and Emilia, two sisters that just like us, were living in Terceira Island and joined School at Sea in the last 2 years. School at Sea is a program based on learning through experience, responsibility and knowledge of the world. This Dutch project, full of challenges and new experiences, that I am sure will be unforgettable, is surely going to change my vision of the world and help me to grow as a person. I have no doubt that if I join School at Sea, the person I am today and the person I will be when I arrive will be really different. That is one of the reasons why I want to join School at Sea. I always liked to visit new places and travel, I also really like the sea and I always lived close to it. So, the idea of spending 6 months discovering new places of the world, exploring them and learning about them seems amazing to me. I also find important the relation I will create with the other students that will be joining me in this project. While living this adventure, they are going to be my family, it will be with them that I will share my emotions and I am sure that we will create a strong relationship. I really want to make this dream come true. And although it still appears to me as a really distant reality, I know I can get it! |
